Subutex Detox
Withdrawing from opiates can be a very demanding and painful experience.  Addicts have the choice to either go through a medical detox or a drug free detox.  A drug free detox allows the addict to be released from the powerful grip of addiction without becoming dependant on another medication. Drug free detox can be very painful at time but the reward of getting of drugs greatly outweighs the pain. Subutex is a medication used in a substitute method of detox for opiates.  A subutex detox can help ease some of the pains and discomforts associated with withdrawal, but subutex can cause dependency, as a result of its opioid nature.    Subutex is the brand name of a medication called buprenorphine.  Buprenorphine is actually a synthetic opiate used as a replacement drug for stronger opiates, like heroin or oxycontin.  Buprenorphine is considered an opioid partial agonist, so its maximal effects are much lower than that of other powerful opiates.  Subutex can cause chills, diarrhea, constipation, drowsiness, nausea, stomach aches, dizziness, and physical weakness. The administration of subutex should be given by a trained medical professional.  Subutex can help addicts develop a lower tolerance to opiates, but the addict will never be free from drug dependency unless they completely quit taking all drugs.

Subutex can be abused and can cause an opiate physical addiction.  When people stop take subutex, they will likely experience withdrawal symptoms from the prescription medication.  The withdrawal symptoms caused by subutex can be very similar to the drugs which subutex is intended Depending on the severity of subutex abuse, the withdrawal symptoms will vary accordingly.  Withdrawal symptoms of subutex include: insomnia, chills, anxiousness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, leg restlessness, anxiety, flu like symptoms, and irritability.  Drug craving can occur when an individual becomes dependent on the medication.  The individual becomes mentally and physically addicted to the euphoric feeling that occurs when using subutex.

A drug free withdrawal can be difficult, but once completed, the addict is free from drug dependency.  A drug free withdrawal will only take about a week.  A substitute method can create a new dependency to yet another drug.  The person taking the drug will think that it is acceptable because of the fact that it is prescribed by a doctor.  Although subutex can be effective in decreasing withdrawal symptoms, it can be abused.  The use of subutex should only be used in the most extreme cases, and even then, it should be closely monitored.

Subutex is a modern way of detox, but like any other opioid medication, subutex can cause dependency.  An opiate addict could be going through a subutex detox for heroin, only to find themselves addicted to a new drug.  While a drug free withdrawal can be a more difficult method, it is the most effect way to end the cycle of addiction.
